From: Aco, Kraljevo
Hm,
maybe I'm a bit late with my reaction to Slavenka Drakulic's text (but there
are objective reasons to consider) but it's never too late to fart out
loud, so here I am.
Please hold your hats and close your umbrella's, not to get blown away. :)
So, it is my opinion that Slavenka wrote her text quite emotionally, which
usually means that one's (in this case hers) perspective was somewhat blur
here and there. I do not agree with the statement that people from Belgrade,
as well as the rest of Yugoslav citizens, are not NATO targets. Why? Well,
it is crystal clear. The attack on Yugoslav citizens has started already
with the introduced economic, cultural and who knows which other sanctions.
Even then it was said (just as today) that the sanctions were brought upon
Slobodan Milosevic. Today they say that they are bombing him. And we all are
expiating. I wonder whether the Leader will have worries about heating,
food, work next winter...No. Of course not. These worries will be ours, for
the lunatics have decided to aim at us and our suffering , to get to
Milosevic over our back. Not caring at it whether he will stay in power or
not. If he serves them in his position, he will stay there - regardless of
all the fuss against him. After all, Holbrook himself confirms this when he
says that Milosevic pisses against the wind a bit, and then agrees to
everything, even stuff that has not been asked for starters. Well, now it
seems that he has dared to strain himself some more, so it seems that his
piss reached the shoes of some sleeked gentlemen from the west, which they
seem to dislike so now they need to rub his nose with these marked shoes.
Of course, again through us. The same story is valid for Iraq. 500.000 dead
children because of the embargo that was meant for the breaking of Sadam
Husein. Mrs Allbright says it's a price that was worth paying for.
We are talking about concerts, child manipulation. Yes, it is awful that all this misery is being used for the promotion of political parties. And I know that a mass of people who would probably participate in these protest happenings don't , because they do not want to be connected with the accompanying scenography, don't want to find themselves in a mass ornamented with Slobodan's pictures, with the insipid nationalist slogans...But there are lots of those who do participate in all this led by emotions provoked by the NATO attacks and their results, conscientiously neglecting the context in which they will be thrown in, because the homeland is on first place. As long as I am talking about all this, some pictures of Albanian children come to my mind who were holding two fingers in the air in front of the cameras at the end of the 80-ies, at the order of some political decorator, not even knowing what it means., why and for whom they are doing it. And they were doing it. I also remember some ridiculous epidemic which has befallen only the Albaniam population, and which has disappeared even quicker for its unbelievable stupidity than it was launched as a part of a political marketing promotion.
The remembrance of the last years Albanian protests is still fresh - all the slogans were written in English, neatly printed and previously prepared (in comparison to the mass of banners we can see in Belgrade, FRY, which are written with crayons and similar., although it's context is a completely different story, and on the other hand a proof of uncensored, which seems to be changing in the last couple of days - there are not so many vulgarities anymore). Hm, are all these Albanians guilty for being manipulated? Hm, I believe that in some ways they are, but it cannot be interpreted as their guilt because of which they deserve all this that has been happening to them then and further. The same is valid for Serbia too. It seems to me that Slavenka is so obsessed with Milosevic as with the devil himself (although she is not far from the truth here...) that she is - with or without intention - anticipating some things and looking at some things mostly one-sided. She is completely forgetting the role of the West in all this, of the US, which in this story- along with the Serbs and Albanians- I see in the light of the cartoon where the big fish eats the small one. To judge the Serbian people in the way she did and out of the reasons she mentioned, and at the same time not applying the same principal for the Albanians, is completely mad. Isn't that exactly what she said that the Serbs are trying to show themselves as innocent but brave victims of the aggression, only in the albanian way. So, the big fish swallows the small one. It is all the same, only in different proportions. Evil exists on all sides.

from: Viktor, belgrade
- about the murder od Slavko Curuvija, owner of the Yugoslav opposition newspaper Dnevni Telegraf, who was shot to death on Sunday.
Offcourse, there is nothing official about this in the media. Political parties haven't reacted, except SPO. Vuk (Draskovic) made a lot of noise about it on Studio B TV. i just watched him. The murder itself was committed in the middle of the day, in Ivo Lola Ribar street (i don't know what's the new name of this street, given by these nationalists, and i don't care...), which is very busy, and the assasin wasn't seen nor caught. This indicates that this was done proffesionally, and maybe also who ordered the murder. My mother passed by the scene of the murder some half an hour after it was committed, and everything was already cleared. There was a lot of people and police there. People are VERY scared. If the purpose of this murder was to frighten people, then it was achieved, Mother of one of my mother's friends cries for the whole day and says how her daughter and son in law will be licvidated (they worked for AIM, and she was also a translator for UNPROFOR, SFOR and IFOR...). People mostly don't want to talk about this, they became more silent, don't trust anyone anymore. Everybody's suspicious, especially those who ask questions... The news about Curvija's licvidation was broadcasted together with the news that some australian major was caught as an infiltrator, and that his network was eliminated. You decide what was the message sent through the media.

Statement from ZENE U CRNOM, London (women in black)
Stop NATO bombing of Yugoslavia
Milosevic continues with his politics of ruthless repression over ehnical
Albanians in Kosovo. But nato bombing doesn't make the humanitarian
catastrophy in Kosovo more bearable. It makes it even worse.
This action is ilegal. Nobody asked the UN security council for
ratification. To exclude UN from the decision making process is a dangerous
presedan which works against the principle that different countries work
together to solve problems. NATO doesn't have the right to act as
international police.
NATO attacks have just strenghtened Milosevic's position and intesified
nationalist streamings in Serbia. They have not protected ethnical Albanians
in Kosovo, they were just used to legitimize further attacks on them. Ever
since the bombing has started people are ruthlesly beeing killed, and almost
a milion of people had to leave their homes.
Democratic and human rights organizations in Yugoslavia and Kosovo are
ignored and set back by nato actions. Independant radio and other media were
silenced.
Independant observers had to be pulled out in order that NATO could start to
act. With less witnesses in the field both sides now have open doors to
increase killings.
Bombing of Yugoslavia is hypocritical. "International community" neglects
many conflicts. They intervene only when that's in their interest. Western
forces deepen the conflict through economic strategies which cause powerty
and inequality.
Main profit from all this is arms trade. If less money would be used for
arms there would be more money for real humanitarian work.
It's a lie that "there's no alternative" and that everything else was
already tried. Warnings about this crisis were sent out many years ago.
Years of nonviolent resistance of Albanian majority passed without western
support.
Because of the above stated we demand from British goverment to:
- instantly stop nato bombing of Yugoslavia
- stop setting back democratic and human rights organizations in Yugoslavia
- use international pressure to fight Milosevic's regime of ethnical cleansing
- to suggest negotiations for diplomatic solution
- to act through UN and international organizations
- to open it's borders for refugees from Kosovo

Dear friends,
Info about Zaginflatch is available on request.
Basically, with this newsletter we want to inform the international community (this is you) on how antiauthoritarians in Yugoslavia and ex-Yugoslavia feel in these moments. Also, as people who have experienced air raids and general alerts, we want to support our friends in Yugoslavia who are experiencing this today. We don't want to prejudice any political solutions to Kosovo and other ex-yu problems, we just want to help our friends, and support them in this way. All opinions published in Zaginflatch will be just personal ones. There is no joint platform. Zaginflatch will bring you hardly any news in the way mainstream media does it. For this kind of info we suggest you try cnn, bbc or some other services. They are available to you anyway.. This is meant to come from inside... Also, if you're into alternative news sources, we suggest you try at www.b92.net ... Zagreb Anarchist Movement (ZAP)
