In June of 1999, the small town of Bowling Green, Ohio played host to a nationwide zine conference. Zine readers and writers came together to talk about the culture of independent publishing. Participants proposed and conducted panel discussions, workshops and mini-lectures covering the politics, economics, ethics and aesthetics of the zine world. Insights were shared. Friendships were forged.
We are planning to do the same thing in June 2000, and the scope of the conference has been expanded to include an even wider range of underground publishing projects. Whether you're into zines, comics, independent newspapers, pamphlets, tracts, or books, there will be something of interest to you at the Underground Publishing Conference. UPC is also taking suggestions for proposed panel discussions, workshops and speakers, so let us know what you would like to see at your conference. Hope to hear from you soon and see you in June!
