Anti-Capitalist Convergence Statement Regarding the State's Murder of Carlo Giuliani

The Washington, DC Anti-Capitalist Convergence condemns the recent assassination of Carlo Giuliani, a young man demonstrating in support of freedom and justice, by the Italian paramilitary police force. The young martyr was shot twice in the head with live ammunition at nearly point-blank range by Italian authorities. Eyewitness accounts, media reports, and photographic evidence indicate that the victim was murdered as he held a fire extinguisher in front of hisw chest, allegedly preparing to throw the extinguisher at a paramilitary vehicle. After he was shot, the vehicle ran over him as he lay bleeding in the street.

The State's message is clear: government property is more valuable to the G8 than human life.

Our message in response is equally clear: we value life over property; we value people over profits; and we demand an end to the Corporate and State forces that would impose their self-serving will at the expense of human dignity and the natural environment that supports life on our earth. We mourn for those whose lives have been sacrificed in defense of a future worth living for, and we stand in solidarity with those who continue the struggle.
