ACC Statement on Violence against Women

This statement has been prompted by the long history of violence and brutality against women, not only in our society, but also in our activist community.

It is very troubling to us that while male activists are fighting against injustice and oppression in the world, women activists are being threatened, beaten, abused, molested, and raped by some of those same male activists.

It is not a normal state of affair. It is not acceptable. There cannot be any talk of fighting the WB and IMF, WEF, Imperialism, neocolonialism, poverty, exploitation, capitalism, racism, and other wrongs of this world, while the big evil within is tacitly condoned: the enslavement of half of the population. The degradation of women and systematic violence against them cannot and will not be tolerated by the ACC.

Activities of some of our male members that we specifically condemn include, but are not limited to, threats against women, violence of any kind against women, sexual assault on women, and any form of misogyny.

We are determined to make our meetings and actions a safe space for women. Therefore, we will take action and if necessary exclude from out midst male activists that engage in any form of violence against women.

That is the position of the ACC. There will be no fight against capitalism if women activists are locked in the kitchen. We'll see to it that no harm is done to women activists coming from our male members. We'll see to it that they are safe and do not live in fear. There will be no exception, no tolerance, no leniency, no compromise. Our determination is categorical.
