Alcuni funzionari della città e del World Economic Forum hanno anche fatto notare come un ulteriore fattore a loro vantaggio sia, soprattutto dopo l'11 Settembre, l'indebolimento del movimento anti-globalizzazione Americano, che non ha mai raggiunto i picchi di aggressività della sua controparte europea.

APPELLO PER UNA COALIZIONE ANTI-CAPITALISTA CONTRO IL WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM A NEW YORK CITY (31 GENNAIO - 4 FEBBRAIO)

UNITEVI A NOI PER COMBATTERE ASSIEME AI NEWYORKESI CONTRO IL TERRORISMO CORPORATIVO

Da molto tempo, i CEO delle più potenti corporazioni, centinaia di importanti funzionari governativi, e "semplici" miliardari - da Bill Gates a Bill Clinton - si riuniscono annualmente a Davos, in Svizzera. In queste occasioni, i veri imperatori del mondo impartiscono le loro direttive ai politici. Qui è dove si tessono le fila di atrocità come il GATT e il WTO. E quest'anno la festa della classe dirigente mondiale si terrà al Waldorf Astoria Hotel, nel centro di Manhattan.

Il WEF ha traslocato qui perchè è stato espulso dalla Svizzera da un'efficace campagna di azioni dirette. Sono convinti che qui a New York siamo scioccati e intorpiditi, e probabilmente lo siamo, ma - ci state prendendo per il culo?

Questa è una provocazione. Mentre migliaia di newyorkesi stanno ancora seppellendo i loro morti, cercando di rimettere insieme quel che resta delle loro vite, e tentando disperatamente di capire come poter continuare a pagare gli allucinanti affitti di New York City dopo aver perso il loro lavoro, gli uomini più ricchi e potenti della terra hanno deciso di venire a festeggiare sulle rovine - senza dubbio per celebrare i miliardi di dollari di tasse (pagate dai cittadini) che i loro governi gli hanno appena sborsato, ed esplorare nuove opportunità di trarre profitto dallo stato di guerra globale permanente. Credono che non abbiamo un briciolo di orgoglio? Di rispetto per noi stessi? Credono che ce ne staremo seduti e li lasceremo fare?

La moratoria sull'azione diretta a New York è terminata, come ci hanno dimostrato i nostri eroici vigili del fuoco.

Mobilitiamoci per una resistenza allegra e creativa contro la grigia, soffocante cultura del conformismo corporativo tipica del WEF; azioni la cui diversità tattica rifletta la ricchezza che sta nell'eterogeneità delle comunità della nostra città. Lanciamo un appello per iniziative che si fondino sui principi della non-gerarchia, del sincero rifiuto della patriarchia, della supremazia dei bianchi, del monopolio, e sulla speranza in un mondo in cui nessuno sia costretto a vivere quotidianamente oppresso dal terrore. Vogliamo un mondo finalmente libero da nazioni e guerre, dalla violenza e dalla precarieta economica sostenute dai loro governanti, dalla raccapricciante eredita di 500 anni di razzismo e colonialismo, dalla brutalita e dall'intolleranza di tutti i tipi di "guerre sante" e fanatismi religiosi.

Non è utopia. Niente è impossibile se liberiamo le nostre vite dalla paura.

A 4 Day Festival of Radical Politics, Performance, and Subversive Joy.

How do we confront the upcoming World Economic Forum (WEF) meetings and stop the BRUTAL bombing of Afghanistan? How will we counter the accelerating fascism, the vicious assault on our basic freedoms, and the permanent state of war? How do we save the beauty of our small and vulnerable planet?

Come to a four day festival where we will explore these issues in depth through workshops, speakers and films with music & performances raging throughout the night.

Speakers include Amy Goodman, award winning journalist of Democracy Now! and Frank Morales (of Covert Action Quarterly) who will explore the effects of recent anti-terrorist legislation on domestic dissent. Learn more about the upcoming WEF convergence in NYC, Israel/Palestine conflict, Mumia, global ecological crisis, workers’ struggles, feminist issues and the significance of anarchism in the 21st century. There will be medic and legal trainings, and workshops on puppetmaking, DIY women’s health and independent media making.

Films on the human rights disasters in Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan, as well as short documentries on international anti-corporate uprising and environmental struggles will be screened. NYC IMC will show "9.11" -- a film on the recent terrorist attacks in NYC. Warcry Independent Cinema will screen insurrectionary music videos.

Performers include Penny Arcade, Rev. Billy, Zero Boy, and spoken word artist Tuli Kupferberg. Seth Tobocman will exihibit his comic art slides.

Music will range from free jazz to punk with DJ's spinning sounds til dawn. Bands will include German Cars vs. American Homes, the Jemeel Moondoc Quartet, and Renegades of Punk and the hardcore Diecide.

The Intergalactic Anarchist Convention is being held two weeks before the World Economic Forum. This event will bring us together, serving as a springboard for the actions surrounding the W.E.F. meetings, catalyzing a potent resistance to ongoing corporate tyranny, State brutality and political repression.
