Custom Linernotes For Joe Standart 20jun06 [7:21 AM 6/20/2006] Boceto Andaluz - Bartolome Calatayud Calatayud's from Spain. Born in the late 1800's and composed up til the 1950's or 60's. He's about my third or 4th favorite classical guitar composer of all times. I think it goes Fernando Carulli, Johan Sebastian Bach, Bartolome Calatayud, Fernando Sor. I like Manuel Ponce a lot but he was much more of a pianist than a guitarist. Prelude - Fernando Carulli I've written much about Carulli at my classical guitar webpage. http://www.frucht.org/carulli.html Caramba - Calatayud Estampa Gitana - Calatayud Lamento Gitano - Calatayud Theme and Variation - Carulli I believe he scored this, but the theme was a Beethoven piece for piano. Vals - Calatayud Mozart - Carulli. From a book called "gitarschule" written in the late 1700s. Each page has three languages, French, English and German. I found a lot of adventurous literature in this book. Grand Etude - Carulli. Another study from that book. He probably composed this one himself. It sounds a lot like a Sonata that I'm working on which he also penned. Rondo Allegro - Carulli. As you can "see" in this CD my two favorite styles for guitar so far are Spanish and Italian. With Italian I tend to lean AWAY from classic and more toward "parlour" but with Spanish I lean away from flamenco and toward a more rigid classic or technique oriented sound. I don't dislike Flamenco, but I'd prefer to hear it than play it. Some of my more folky, punk and pop stuff can be sampled at: http://www.frucht.org and http://www.myspace.com/marco if you'd like. cheers, marco "capelli" frucht New England 2006
