Hi Dave... Here's what I have. William Caldwell moved from Fayette County, Pa to Ohio around 1804. I don't know his parents. His wife was Elizabeth Caldwell. Their son, James, (1813-6 May 1853) married Wilhelmina Frederick (10/31/1812 - 7/29/1901). I was told James middle initial was "I" but this is just what I was told. Anyway, their son, Benjamin F. Caldwell was born in 1835 in Elk Run Township, Oh. Died 27 Sep 1892. He married Lydia Freed in 1859. I don't have any datees on their son, James but his wife was Mary Lillian Ruhl. Their daughter, Pearl Lydia, was my grandmother. Pearl was born in Lisbon, Oh and later moved with her husband, Webster Yarian, and family to Pa.

The writeup in the History of Central Oregon pages 790-791 is about J.H. (William John Henry) Gray. My branch of Grays migrated to Oregon. The part on Mooney says:

"Nancy (Mooney) Gray, the mother of these children named, is the grandmother of J.H. Gray, the subject of this sketch. Her father was Patrick Mooney and would be the great-grandfather of J.H. Gray. This venerable patriarch was born in 1681 and died December 14, 1799, being one hundred and eighteen years of age. He married Jane Beard of Ireland and to them were born in Virginia, United States, on March 1, 1768, Nancy Mooney. After the death of his first wife Patrick Mooney married a second time. This wedding occurred when he was one hundred years of age and his bride was eighteen years of age. They lived together eighteen years before his death. Patrick Mooney was a well educated and prominent man. He was born in the north of Ireland but came of Scotch ancestry. One time during his life, while on a pleasure voyage their ship was wrecked. He and two others were attacked by pirates and sold as slaves on the island. Later they succeeded in making their escape and came to America."

The Shane interview of William Clinkenbeard confirms the age of Patrick at death if it is to be believed. Other parts of the J.H. Gray story are found in another family source.

A great aunt of mine, Martha Ellen Freeman nee Foster, whose mother was Martha Jane Foster nee Gray, wrote a family history about 1940 which says in part:

"Nancy Mooney Gray's grandmother, Jane Beard, was born in Ireland in 1706, died Kentucky 1806. Jane Beard married Patrick Mooney, who was born in Ireland. He and his brother were sent to Scotland to school in Edinburgh. One day they went to the beach for a swim. They were captured by the pirates and as history goes, you had either to 'walk the plank' or join the crew. The story says he landed 3 years later on the coast of Virginia, USA. In Portland Oregon in the early 1800s was a wholesale millinery firm, Mooney & Valentine. Mr. Mooney of that firm told a desendant of this Patrick Mooney this same story had been handed down in his family, the story of the 'Pirate.' Mr. Mooney believes he is a descendant of one of Patrick Mooney's brothers. Patrick Mooney was born in Ireland 1681, died Kentucky Dec. 4, 1799, age 118. Jane Mooney his wife was 100 years old when she died."

The bit about Patrick's bride of 18 doesn't seem to fit, but it's an interesting tale.

Dave. I have several questions and a little help. This is all related to the Cook family. I have established on my visit to Meigs County Ohio that Rebecca, Jacob, and Warrick Cook are brother and sister. This is in David Longstreth contribution to the log cabin series. Gessner had their parents as Joel and Keturah Cook. We do not know her maiden name. He also had Joel's parents as Job Cook and Mary Warrick. I think this is all O K or in the family as Rebecca had a brother by the name of Warrick and a daughter by the name of Keturah. The question is where did he get this information? I would like to do more research on this family and need a little help.
Rebecca as you List married William Robison and their children as you list,
Orfy is actually Orpha Jane Robison born in 1851 and died January 11,1927. She spent her life in Meigs County, Married John McCumber and is in the Robinson Cemetery. His family is listed with Brad's home page. One that is not listed is Keturah Robison, born July 30, and Married Joseph Longstreth and moved to Butler County Kansas. She died April 17, 1899 in Wichita, Kansas and is buried in the O'Dell cemetery in Butler County.
I have in my notes that Marion Robison is a male and lived in West Virginia.
By the way, Warrick Cook was alive in the 1980 Cencus and living in Ohio.

If you're interested, Patrick (and Jane?) Mooney had the following children besides Mary (born 10 May 1756, married William Clinkenbeard Spring 1781 in Kentucky):

John, born ca. 1760

Jane, Married Joseph Dark (he was murdered and she apparently did not remarry)

Nancy born 1 Mar 1768 in VA, married David Gray 24 Jul 1792, Paris, Bourbon County, KY. (my ancestors.)

Patrick Mooney shows up in Augusta County, VA records in March 1769 as exempted from county levy; and as delinquent (2 thithables) for 1779 county levy ("gone"). He presumably went to Kentucky about that time, to Strode's Station, where they met up with Clinkenbeard.
