From Robison Families of Ohio:
Judge of the "Common Pleas Court"
Obit in the Ravenna Republican, 6 Aug. 1925, Ravenna, Ohio
Judge E. F. Robison was killed and Mrs. A. W. Walter critically injured in an automobile accident near Adrain, Mich., about 8:30 o'clock, this morning, while on the way home from Fish Lake, Mich. Mr. and Mrs. Walter, Miss Doris Concklin and Miss Blanche Harris were with Judge Robison, who was driving the car which was overturned. Mr. Walter, Miss Harris and Miss Concklin were reported, injured, but not seriously. ... Word has been sent to Mrs. Robison, who is visiting her parents in Pasadena, Cal., having left for that city shortly before her husband went to Fish Lake.
Their daughter, Miss Helen Claire Robison, is at Camp Geyahi, Mich., where she went in early July to take the position of swimming instructor. Besides Mrs. Robison and the daughter, he leaves a son, Harold Robison, of Detroit.
TAUGHT SCHOOL FOR MANY YEARS
Edward F. Robison was born in Palmyra, Portage county, in 1870, son of James and Mary Hall Robison. His mother died when he was 10 years old.
After attending the schools of his native town, he graduated from the Normal Department of Mt. Union college, following which he taught school for many years, first in Pricetown, followed by many years of teaching in Palmyra, Aurora and Garrettsville, serving as superintendent of schools in the last two places.
He received the nomination for probate judge while teaching in Garrettsville and was elected the following November in 1908, and was twice re-elected. He resigned the office while serving his third term in March, 1919, to go to Detroit, where he accepted a position in the business world. About three years later he returned to Ravenna, where he opened a law office, having been admitted to the bar while in office.
He was appointed common pleas judge following the death of Judge A. S. Cole last December 24, taking office January 1, 1925.
He was married to Miss Gloria Snyder of Mt. Union, formerly of Lorain, Ohio, their acquaintance beginning while they were students at Mt. Union.
Judge Robisons' religious affiliations were with the Congregational church, of which he was a member while living in Ravenna, but from which he withdrew his name on leaving for Detroit.
He was also a member of Garrettsville lodge, F. & A. M. and Silver Creek chapter of the same city, R.A.M.; Cresset lodge No. 225, K. of P., of Ravenna; Usef Khan Grotto, Akron, and of its band; Ravenna lodge No. 1076, B.P.O.E.; Kent Eagles; Ravenna Kiwanis club; Valley of Detroit Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, the 32nd degree of Masonry; the Akron local of the American Federation of Musicians; director of the Ravenna city band; Alpha Tau Omega fraternity of Mt. Union; Ohio State Bar association and the Portage County Bar association and past chancellor of Diamond lodge, Palmyra, K. of P.
Following the death of his parents, Judge Robison was reared to young manhood under the care of his aunt, Jennie Robison, and his grandmother, the widow of Edward Robison.
Judge Robison was widely known in the musical circles of Portage county as band organizer and director, choir leader, singer and all around musician. He reorganized the Ravenna city band on coming to this city and made it one of the leading bands of this section of the state.
When Judge Robison went to Detroit, A. W. Walter took up the work of leadership of the band, which was continued for several months. Judge Robison recently reorganized the players again and was getting it in line for effecting work when he left for his Michigan outing.
Notes of John Gessner:
Edward F. Robison - known as Judge Ed Robison, was born at Palmyra, Ohio on June 11, 1869 and died in an auto accident on August 6, 1925. He was an outstanding musician, a teacher, a lawyer, and a Common Pleas Judge in Ravenna. He attended Hiram College. He is buried in the Palmyra, West Cemetery.
His wife was Flora Snyder who died at the age of 74 on August 1, 1952. She lived in Detroit, was a well known lawyer, specializing in Immigration cases. Edward and Flora Robison had two children:
