INDEX

[699] From the Profile of Edward Robison 1818 - 1863 by John Gessner, in the possession of David Warren Robison, May, 2002.

Warren J. Robison born in Palmyra in 1871; died in Ravenna, Ohio on January 30, 1953. He taught school 25 years, served as Mayor of Ravenna, County Recorder, member of the State Legislature and many other public offices. He married Della M. Davis on October 19, 1892. She died in 1924. He then married Jessie A. Winfield on June 5, 1926. She was born October 20, 1880 in Palmyra and died March 30, 1955. He, both wives and several young children are buried in the Palmyra - West Cemetery.

Warren and Della had one child that grew to maturity - Judge Henry J. Robison (1895 - 1973). He served as Probate Judge 14 years in Portage County, 19 years as Director or Assistant Directory of the Ohio State Welfare Department, and 15 years as lobbyist in Columbus, Ohio. He married Vernan Adele White (September 8, 1894 to September 7, 1983.) Henry and his wife are buried in Columbus. He was survived by a daughter (adopted) and two grandchildren.

From Robison Families of Ohio:

Obituary;

W. J. Robison, 81, Ex-Ravenna Mayor and Legislator; dies

A former Ravenna mayor, Warren J. Robison, 81, died at 4:45 A.M. today in Robison Memorial Hospital where he was admitted on Dec. 19. In failing health the past 10 years, he had been quite ill the past four years.

Born in Palmyra, Oct. 31, 1871, he attended Mr. Union and Wooster colleges before beginning a teaching career which he continued for 25 years. He taught in the Nelson, Paris, Mantua Village and Mantua township schools until retiring in 1914.

Moving to Ravenna from Mantua in 1914, he took up his residence at 266 S. Prospect St., and became the Portage county agent for the Midland Mutual Life Insurance co.

Always an ardent Democrat, he was a successful candidate for the state legislature, serving for one term from 1916-18. In 1918, he was elected mayor of Ravenna and served for a two-year term.

Mr. Robison was appointed as county recorder to fill out the unexpired term of John J. Shanley following the latter's death. He was a member of the Mantua F. and A.M. Lodge and a former member of the Knights of Pythias lodge of Palmyra. He was very active in the lodge until his health began to fail. He had been a member of the First Congregational church since moving to Ravenna.

He leaves his wife, Jessie Ann; a son, judge Henry J. Robison, now assistant director of public welfare for the State of Ohio and former probate judge of Portage county; and a granddaughter, Mrs. Carolyn Robison Lautzenheiser of Columbus.

Also surviving are a foster daughter, Mrs. Helen Lewis of R.D. 2, and a niece, Mrs. Clarietta Harvey, who lives at the Robison home.

Services at the C. E. Woolf and Son funeral home, Ravenna, have been arranged for 2 p.m. Monday. Rev O.G. Reuman will officiate. Burial will be in the Palmyra cemetery.

The family will meet friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon and night.
