BIOGRAPHY: 1) From Books of Robison by Jean Mosher Robison:
BIOGRAPHY: The Robison family has a very impressive military record. Pierson joined the 135th Regiment of Indiana Volunteers and after serving for nine months was discharged by reason of the close of the war. Thomas and William enlisted at the three months call in 1861, but were not accepted as more troops had offered their services than were needed.
BIOGRAPHY: In April of the same year William and Pierson joined the state troops and served their full terms. Amos also enlisted in the same Regiment, and afterwards Amos and William both reenlisted, joining the 2nd Indiana Cavalry. John Robison Jr. enlisted in Company B. 133rd. Regiment of Indiana Volunteers.
BIOGRAPHY: William was just two months past seventeen years old when he first entered the service. He was a scout under William Alexander, chief of scouts for General McCooks Cavalry, until captured on the Stoneman-McCook raid. Of this experience he wrote in his memoirs, "I layed in Andersonville and Florence prisons and was placed under federal guns at the siege of Charleston, South Carolina, and was finally left in a hospital prison at Savannah, Georgia. I was released from prison when General Sherman's troops took possession of Savannah on their march to the sea". William wrote his memoirs many years later and gave them as Christmas gift to his wife, Cynthia in 1893 while they lived in Caney, Kansas. This handwritten account was handed down to William's granddaughter, Beulah Robison, Rowbottom, Sprecher. This history of the Robison family was passed down to the Harriman family of Tonganoxie, Kansas.
BIOGRAPHY: Interesting facts were learned from William's service record recieved from the General Service Administration in Washington, D.C. One page is a hand written list of all his children. There is also mention of a family Bible which was handed down to William from his father John. This Bible was never located. William stated that it had been lost. There is one page copied from this Bible which lists all the Howell family.
