From "Bergen Family of Long Island, New York" pg. D207; Before leaving Holland, he had a farm and wife, "Maijgen Hendricksen," mother of his children in Vianen, province of South Holland.

Cornelius was a farmer, renting two farms over his 20 year stay at Renssalearwyck. He stayed until 1663 and served as a Councilor from 1652 to 1658 and 1660, 1, 3, at a salary of f50 per year. He was granted 50 morgans of land at Amersfoort (Flatlands) where his daughter, Grietje, lived. When he remarried, he arranged to divide the property amongst his children. He later bought land in Albany in 1668-1670. Where he died is not mentioned.
