[2262] I have copies of several letters which Henry wrote home to his mother and family while serving in the Civil War. I also have a copy of the letter written by Henry Hudson Acker informing the family of Henry's death. Henry had been ill with diahhrea for quite a while and died after getting sunstruck on patrol near Vicksburg, Mississippi. This death was one of the biggest motivating factors in the families' decision to move west to Oregon as detailed in Anna Dell Clinkinbeard's book Across the Plains in '64.
