From Robison Families of Ohio:
After 1850 Sarah and William moved to Parke County, Indiana. Had 8-11 children.
Sara Robison was the second, or perhaps the third child of Joseph and Elizabeth. Some confusion exists befcause both Sarah and her brother, Daniel, seem to have been born in 1803. Sarah was born in what is now Tuscarora Township, Perry County, PA., was no doubt named for her paternal grandmother, Sarah Roseberry Robison.
Her existence was unknown to me until Jean Robison wrote in February of 1998 saying that she had received some writings of Edith, the daughter of John Robison, Jr. of Brazil, Indiana. The writings say that Sarah Robison, sister of John Robison, Sr. married William Bradfield and then provides a list of seven children.
Columbiana County, Ohio marriage records show that William Bradfield married Sarah Robison on October 5, 1826 at East Fairfield, Ohio.
From the writings of Silas Robison, Joseph's youngest son, we learn that in 1838 William Bradfield and his father-in-law, Joseph Robison, went to Meigs County, Ohio and purchased 320 acres of land for $850.00. In the following year the Robisons and Cooks moved to Meigs County. Later in 1839 they divided the 320 acres - 160 acres to William Bradfield, and 160 acres to Joseph Robison. It does not appear that the Bradfields ever lived in Meigs County, but they were there to sign deeds.
William and Sarah Bradfield were in East Fairfield for the 1850 census. In 1852 they and most of their children moved to Rockport, Parke County, Indiana.
William, an elder in the Christian Church, was born September 7, 1805 in Ohio and died April 26, 1862 near Rockport. Sarah died on the home farm on September 20, 1883. They are buried in the Union Cemetery in Adams County.
From all sources we have there is evidence of ten children.
In a biography of Reason Bradfield there appears this statement about his mother, Sarah:
"Mrs. Bradfield joined the Christian Church when a girl, as she believed in the Apostolic custom of immersion, but on account of her father's opposition she went away from home. Later, however, all of her people became members of the same church.
Greendford and East Fairfield were the locations of the early effort (1826-1829) of the formation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Alexander Campbell, Thomas Campbell, and Walter Scott all preached at these locations.
August, 2002: Unfortunately, John Gessner passed away before I was able to obtain the Bradfield Genealogy by Donald G. Armstrong (2000, Newbury Street Press, Boston, Mass.) which deals extensively with the Bradfield family. The real question raised by this book is whether or not there is a connection between our Sylvanus Bradfield Robison (son of Joseph Jr.) and Sylvanus Bradfield who moved to Parke County, Indiana along with many others.
