One of the most important ingredients that leads to the success of any cause is the ability of its members to inspire.
So I suggest we all post anything that has ever inspired us, whether they be quotes, books, literature, famous figures, music lyrics, speeches, symbols, anything.
Things that are directly accessible are best, because inspiration works best when it is delivered in small, short, sharp and spontaneous doses.
When Nelson Mandela was in prison, the only thing that kept him going was a poem called Invictus.
This thread should not only provide us with a base to get through hard times, inspire us to carry on, to greatness, but it should be a place where we can absord more material that we otherwise might not have come across, share our different inspirations and then ideally take them out into the world.
It doesn't specifically have to be inspiration either, but anything that supports and adds to our cause, anything that sparked a new idea or perception within you. Basically anything that you hold to be significant in some way.
So here are a few of mine;
We have the potential for greatness, glory, exuberance and vitality, but we are caged by social convention and by our own pettiness. We are pale shadows of what we could be and, worst of all, for the most part we aren't even aware that we have this latent strength and power, we live our lives following a set of artificial, false and worthless socially imposed values. We have caged ourselves.- Nietzsche
-- It's already in my signature but it's just too good not to include properly.
"Nobody can hurt me without my permission."
- Gandhi
"Every attainment, every step forward in knowledge, follows from courage, from hardness against oneself,
from cleanliness in relation to oneself."
-Nietszche
"This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man."
-Shakespeare - Hamlet
And one of my other favourites;
"We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once."
— Friedrich Nietzsche
Two movies that I strongly reccomend you watch;
-Into the Wild
-Fight Club
And here's one specific quote from Fight Club;
''Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived.
I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars.
Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.
We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War.
No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives.
We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars.
But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off. ''
Also, to finish off, a poem that i have just finished writing, please do comment on it, because i can't really judge for myself if it is good and if it is bad then i need to be told! (It's best read slowly and whispering)
Mine is the restless spirit,
The wandering soul, untamed.
Chasing life’s elusive limits,
Save for these haunting chains.
But let not tempered passion suppress,
And suffocate the core.
Let not vitality digress,
Stay fast and endure.
While one is forced to sway and tremble
In the face of the uniform tide.
Dine not at apathy’s table,
Retain your individual pride.
And in this world of indifference
Change is welcomed last.
Removing the veil of innocence,
In Beauty’s light we bask.
For all the time they strive to stop
The relentless rhyme, Heart’s impassioned clock
One finds change, Inevitable, Unstoppable
Unbeatable.
So quell yourself desire,
Console, not long to wait.
Kindle the secret fire,
You will find sure escape.
