marginalisation

i have been marginalised and exiled and invalidated and in the end it does give you a consciousness that you lacked before and it feels better and worse and its only worse cos it makes you different and totally misunderstood.

Sorry that you had to go through that to achieve a new consciousness, but glad you now have it. At least now you have a better idea of how to go about liberating/empowering yourself and others. (i hope~ i don't know you so correct me if im talking bollocks!)

Can i be nosy and ask what happened to you?

I think everyone has to go through that to achieve a higher understanding of social complexes.

Many feel that they have to hyphenate their label (IE. Anarcho-capitalist, anarcho-primitivism, anarcho-Libertarian, & etc) to show what they view as the most important guiding principle underlying their belief in Anarchism. So be it. It is their right. But marginalization and factionalism always result, no? So why do it?

Hyphenated anarchism doesn't have to lead to factionalism and marginalization. A hyphen tells a bit about the perspective & form of anarchism you have. Different forms of anarchism don't have to war with each other anything. I call myself an anarcho-communist because that's the type of anarchism I'd like to live in. I'm perfectly willing to cooperate with non-communist anarchists. Just because people are different doesn't mean they have to war with one another.

It doesn't necessarily require facing the same marginalization. It requires learning about the specific acts, often learning how different systems of oppression interlock, and sometimes thinking, "this could happen to me if..."

P.S. How did this turn into a discussion of factionalism?

I agree mainly with anarcho-communist ideas, but prefer the label anarcho-individualist because I am big on the individual and less on the commune (*shudder* I hate that word). Though I take influence from all over the place.
