A Piece of Philosophical Debate

Postby Anarchological » Wed Apr 14, 2010 3:28 am

Reality, you say: "If you are PRACTICING your morals your behavior is what is called "ethical". If you fail at practicing your morals or disregard them, that is considered "unethical".

By your definition, as long as a serial killer believes what he is doing is moral, what he is doing is then ethical. Yes, I do understand your position, and as I've repeatedly agreed, this position is also held by many philosophy professors. And, once again, this has not been the historically accepted definition nor one that is accepted in common usage. I've debated with philosophy scholars who refuse to take a stand on whether such things as being a serial killer is wrong, or whether people should treat others as they wish to be treated themselves or risk paying a price for their actions. This politically correct definition used in the educational establishment, that you are touting, leads to the abysmal confusion of ethical relativism, and is an excuse for abusive behavior, by both individuals and institutions.
