Brad Spangler: anarcho-capitalism is socialism!

Postby Guest » Thu Oct 01, 2009 4:18 pm

The dirty little secret of "anarcho-capitalist" theory is that it's a particular school of libertarian socialist thought.

I honestly think an undue amount of focus is given in the anarchist movement to attacking anarcho-capitalism. It's such a tiny movement, and it's never going to go anywhere. Time and energy could be better spent. Unless actually debating one of them, I see no reason to even bring up its existence.

It's going nowhere at the moment but things could easily change. Best to have our critique ready and waiting if it ever does happen. And I've actually seen some poor misguided souls who think that the USSR was socialist and that capitalism=freedom. We need to stand up to these people, maybe not make a big song and dance about it like francois seems to want to do but nevertheless stand up to them.

It could be a useful topic in a discussion about 'Political systems which should never be implemented, ever. Seriously for fucks sake if any of these gets any serious mass popularity the time has come for a stalinist style great purge.'

True, true I suppose. But this kind of randomly posting a topic comparing it to 1984 (which is probably appropriate anyhow) out of the blue, as though everybody needs to be constantly reminded of it, strikes me as a waste of energy.

Yeah I guess you're right about that, and by the way, I've had an idea recently, every time we refer to 'anarcho'-capitalism we should type 'apolitic'-capitalism instead, to try and distuinguish ourselves from them.

Then nobody will know what we mean, and they'll take the chance to ignore our whole argument and correct us.

How about whiny-capitalist-fucktards?

psuedo-anarcho capitalists?

Then people might think your saying their not real whiny-capitalist fucktards (does it work?) instead of what you were going for which was not real anarchists.

Why not just say ancapism? It does not contain any variation of the word 'anarchism', people will know what we mean, and it won't give them any excuse to sweep our arguments away.

the 'an' in 'ancap' stands for 'anarcho'. if 'an'-cap isn't anarchist, why call it anarchist?

i can't remember where i saw it first, but i like 'private-state capitalism', as opposed to 'public-state capitalism'. it's too long, but otherwise it's perfectly descriptive.

capitalism depends on private property, which must be upheld somehow. in the capitalism we have now, private property is upheld by a traditional state, which is open to (limited) public input. hence, 'public-state capitalism'. in the capitalism 'an'-caps want, private property is upheld by private institutions which mimic those of the public state in their fundamental functions. most anarchists agree that this is a simply the privatization of the state (and most believe that it would return to 'public' form, since that form lends an air of credibility). hence, 'private-state capitalism'.

hmm. 'privcap'?
