There is no escape

Postby Morrigan » Tue Oct 21, 2003 11:36 am

Adbusters, an anti-consumer magazine popular with anarchists and leftists, now has a new goal. Selling sneakers.

http://cfcnplus.workopolis.com/servlet/Content/fasttrack/20030820/MESNEA20?section=Marketing

Apparently, the new company called "Black Dot Sneakers" will directly compete with Nike. The shoes will be hip anti-establishment -costing upwards of $60. Better yet, they will be produced in fucking China! But the company reassures us that the factories will not be sweat shops. Yeah right! In China? So much for providing Americans with jobs.

It's brilliant! Create a non-for-profit organization targeted to a specific focus group. Convince them you are legit, and then once they start believing you, then go in for the kill. Sell them product! Fool the hippie morons into buying goods through your subsidiary companies and corporations that advertise through you. Just brilliant!

Naomi Klein is in it to sell books people, just like Noam Chomsky. I'm sure they feel a great affinity towards the common working man while pulling up to their 2 million dollar condos in their AMG Mercedes. Power to the people!

Adbusters have always been liberal idiots.

while anarchists may be generally misguided, we share a dislike of the current government. Some of the anarchist criticism of US policy and procedure is valid. In fact, I would go as far to say that some of the ideas behind syndicalism are good ones. But being a Fascist, I reject the idea that we can have no government and law.

A few comments, Morrigan:

"So much for providing Americans with jobs." I don't really follow Adbusters but I thought they were trying to organize a boycott of American products, so I'm not sure where you got the impression that the editors gave a crap about American jobs.

"Naomi Klein is in it to sell books people, just like Noam Chomsky. I'm sure they feel a great affinity towards the common working man while pulling up to their 2 million dollar condos in their AMG Mercedes." Do you think they write books just for the money? Of course they make money writing books, but do you think that if I offered Chomsky twice as much money as he does make writing books, to not write books, he would take it? I seriously doubt that. Also, do you have some evidence that Klein And Chomsky live in 2 million dollar condos and drive Mercedes? I'm not saying they don't, I'm just curious.

I heard that Chomsky has a plush pad on Beacon Street in Boston where homes average about 2 million. I'm not sure about Naomi Klein, but I will look into it.

I think the editors of Adbusters DO care about American jobs. Without jobs, we have no money, and with no money, we can't buy the magazine -or maybe they haven't figured that one out yet.

I think you may be right about chomsky but I've only ever heard that assertion in one other place and it was an anti-chomsky article so I dunno

well if it is true so what?

I care about the man's facts and ideas more then where he lives even if where he lives does bespeak of some hypocrisiy on his part

Yes, yes, and Pierre Joseph Proudhon ran for public office. I agree with that other poster (sorry, I forgot the name) who said that it's his ideas that he writes about that're important. The questions I care about are what's he saying? are his facts good? are his sources credible? etc. Those are, I s'pose, still open to debate, but I don't think his house is the critical issue. Naturally I would rather if he didn't live in what you term a "plush pad," but that's not too important to me.
