Ireland votes today on the Lisbon Treaty, and is expected to join the EU superstate. Here in england we're not getting a say on the matter, so we may well have a President of the EU soon enough (most likely Tony Blair, still never convicted after skipping his trial for war crimes) and a corresponding lack of autonomy even at the level of government. bad thing? methinks. The EU capo will liaise with Obama on important matters, bringing us one step closer to one world government. edit: results are in! ireland refused the treaty. next step: getting them to change their mind. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7452171.stm

I've grown quite fond of Britain while here. I hope it doesn't go to shit before I'm able to come back. EDIT: Actually, I freaking love it here. <3 Great Britain.

I don't see a 'one world' government on the horizon. With China rapidly becoming a 'super-state' I see a big world divide. Why should China, which is riding the crest of a wave, join with the crumbling West?

Interesting pamphlet from the WSM on the EU: http://struggle.ws/pdfs/EUpam.pdfAnyway, now that Ireland's ratified the treaty the only country left is czechoslovakia and they'll probably cave soon enough. The only party that will offer the UK a referendum on the treaty is the conservatives and they'll only do it on condition that all the other countries haven't signed On another interesting EU related note the conservatives have also been cosying up to a lot of far-right parties with anti-semitic backgrounds in the EU parliament after their break from the other centre-right groups and they're almost certain to win the next general election unless a miracle happens and everyone votes for the liberal democrats. If things keep going at this rate england'll end up a fascist dictatorship

don't get too stressed. the problem isn't how the ruling class structures itself, but the fact that they exist at all. just relax and watch with amusement as they play musical chairs. actually, part of me thinks a global state would be a blessing in disguise. as long as there are several states to choose from, people won't challenge the very notion of the state.

A European superstate isn't any better or worse than a European microstate. It's still a state, in Europe, with police, and banks, and politicians and a capitalist ruling class exploiting the apathetic working class.
