Who We Are and What We Do
The NO BORDERS project consists of a small, non-sectarian anarchist/anti-authoritarian collective in Louisville, Kentucky. We are a collective that opposes domination and oppression on a macro scale; we feel these concepts extend far beyond the standard critique of only capitalism and the state. While our goal as a collective is to participate in a plethora of projects that perpetuates the social struggle against all forms of oppression, hierarchical power, and domination, we intend to launch a mobile, radical lending library as our first extensive endeavor.
The radical lending library will carry literature, pamphlets, and films that seek to get to the root of the problems of economic disparities, ecological devastation, racism, women's oppression, imperialism and colonialism, heteronormativity, and the Prison Industrial Complex, just to name a few. A radical perspective is sorely lacking in our community; we intend to change this, allowing these ideas to be available directly in the neighborhoods.
We will travel through Louisville neighborhoods, and hopefully soon extend across the bridge into neighboring Indiana. Pamphlets will be free, and books will be lent out to communities using the honor system. Our schedule will soon be made available on our website.
We seek to reclaim public space within our communities, giving rise to a horizontal, face-to-face politics in a directly democratic manner. Like the radical labor union the IWW's call to create the new world in the here-and-now, we seek to create the communistic social and economic relations we desire immediately: from each according to her ability and passion, to each according to her need and desire.
When we say “No Borders,” we mean it: not only do we oppose the arbitrary borders created by nation-states and capitalism, but ideological borders that give rise to dogmatism. From Marxist and other socialist perspectives to anti-civ and post-anarchist perspectives, we seek to carry all radical literature that is concerned with challenging the spectacle in a meaningful sense. While we are candidly anarchist, we desire to have a diverse array of radical perspectives available – “anarchist” or not.
The concepts of local economy and community have been easily co-opted by a capitalism that portrays itself as benevolent and “green” – we seek to re-appropriate these ideas, and dismantle the all-too-common liberal assumption that we can use neoliberalism and markets to create social change.
Call for Mutual Aid and Donations
Our hope and aspiration is to operate this project on a shoe-string budget. We feel like since we're skipping the overhead and other headaches that come with attaining an infoshop space, this project has potential for long-term sustainability. That said, we could use your help and mutual aid if you like the idea of the NO BORDERS project. We could use your books – or a few bucks toward buying more books – if you have either. We're approximately half-way to our goal of accumulating 200 books for the lending library before starting the neighborhood rotations. If you would like to host events as fundraisers in Louisville or elsewhere to raise money – or collect books and literature – we'd be happy to hear your ideas and help out. Also, if you're in and around the Louisville area, we could use volunteers for tabling. Our contact information and PO Box address for book or monetary donations are below, as well as our wish list if you'd like to be extra sweet and send us a title we want.
