You said you're a movie buff, right? What's your taste?

I've made 3 films.

Uh, no.

What's your taste?

Well, to give a few examples, I like "Clerks," "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," "Office Space," "Saving Silverman," "Swingers," "Forrest Gump," "Good Will Hunting,"* "Shawshank Redemption," "Big," "Fight Club," "High Fidelity," David Guets "mockumentaries," and anything with Leslie Nielson, even when he's a cop. Good Will Hunting's probably my favorite.

I dislike anything with Arnold Schwartzennager, Silvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, the Wayans bros., Pauley Shore, Ashton Kutcher, Will Smith, Jamie Fox,

Notes on Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail: Way overrated. Very good movie, but c'mon. It's not that good. Limeys would have you believe it's the entire funniness of the world crammed into 2 hours, but they're liars. Liars, I tell you!

*"GWH contains allusions to both Zinn's "People's History..." and Chomsky's "Manufacturing Consent," which I thought was interesting.

Download it, it's 700 megs. Kind of worth it, despite what some would say. He does a good job contrasting the elites with the rest of us. And I think that's all you can really ask for. Of course, he is an elite, so it's really just sad, but yeah.

Going to download Chasing Liberty soon.

I'd be interested in your movies, too, HG.

My mistake. I thought you said that in another thread.

Hmmm...Always thought Kevin Smith was overrated by drunken college kids. But "Forrest Gump"? Gag. Republican propaganda. "Good Will Hunting"? That phony working-class conformist claptrap? Retch. I did like "Office Space" though. "Swingers" - Anything with yuppies I hate. "Fight Club" is entertaining, but like "The Matrix" gets too much praise from anarchists.

I dislike anything with Arnold Schwartzennager, Silvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, the Wayans bros., Pauley Shore, Ashton Kutcher, Will Smith, Jamie Fox,

Because they're all Republicans?

That's because you're a stupid Yankee, who can't appreciate sophisticated British humour. (Insert Helen Fielding chasing a gorilla and vice versa). Thought I'd beat TCP to the punch.

*Rolls eyes a la Michael Bolton, Office Space* Oh really, huntergatherer? What were they about?

I'm sure he's not talking about Hollywood productions. There's "independent" film (with Hollywood stars in smaller pictures) and there's independent independent film with anyone who has a digital camera who makes movies no one sees (except family and friends). The latter is what I'm involved with personally.

Someone did, but that someone wasn't I.

Are they? Arnie obviously is. On a side note, have you seen Conan O'Brien's impression of Arnold? Wow, now that's comedy.

I'm sure he's not talking about Hollywood productions.

So am I. It's just that I was so excited that someone would devote a thread to me, making me feel worthy and special, and then huntergatherer was trying to steal my spotlight. A curse on you, huntergatherer!

independent film with anyone who has a digital camera who makes movies no one sees (except family and friends). The latter is what I'm involved with personally.

That, of course, raises an obvious question: were they pornographic? :D

I saw part of Clockwork Orange. Made my eyes hurt. I left. Made my eyes better.

I think visual aesthetics are an important part of a movie. And I think they are a major problem of many movies (including Grail). Favorite movies that I have seen (in no particular order) (I don't see too many & I know I have missed out on many very good movies, especially independent ones):

The Kingdom (I can't stand his other movies)
Star Wars IV & V
Together
The Princess Bride
The Magdelene Sisters
Fight Club
Viva Zapata!
Spartacus
Saving Private Ryan
Indy I & III
The Lord of The Rings I-III
To Be or Not to Be
Goodbye Lenin
Princess Mononoke
Lagan
Legend of Bhagat Singh
The Last Temptation of Christ
& more I can't think of offhand...
