After discovering a lead that connects my video to a tv i have lying around, i rediscovered star wars, and since now im old enough to appreciate it, i realised return of the jedi really does suck.

I mean, its like, george lucas wrote it after not eating and sleeping for a week, and came to the conclusion he wanted to make a film about the care bears going to war with the nazis...

on the other hand, star wars IV and V are two of the greatest films ever. And episode II wasnt so monstrously bad, either.

Apparently episode III is gonna be quite good.

RotJ can be a fun movie. The cinemetography is good and the settings are good. But the plot is too contrived and the Ewoks are too cute by half.

Episode I had the same problems: cute ideas screwed up the plot and the cultures and Jar-Jar was so bloody annoying. Episode II was better even if it contradicted the existing literary canon on both Boba Fett and Tarkin.

Episode III - I saw a claimed outline some years ago. It was friggin' awesome! It was almost certainly a forgery based on various references in the early books and RPG books. That's where they got the fight between Obi-Wan and Anikin in the volcano from. But I hope G.L. reads that outline...

The whole "official" story has been changing constantly...theres a nice little database at www.starwars.com if you're that interested.

Essentially, if it was in a book, game or film, the core of the storyline is considered true. George Lucas has overall control of anything written, which is why he kept the clone wars et all a closely guarded area, with only a few rumours and maybes leaking out.

I'm such a dirty fanboi :(

And i would have to say A Clockwork Orange is the best film.

I thought "City of God" had its moments, but didn't make any conclusions except that the Rio projects are dangerous and violent. Duh! It played more like a Brazillian "Goodfellas". A lot of these movies are very good at portraying depravity and violence that poverty breeds, but they never make any conclusions.

The best film ever made about youth and poverty is "Los Olvidados" by Luis Bunuel. I also like "La Haine" (Hate) by Matthieu Kassovitz. That was before he sold out with "Gothika."

You walked out of "A Clockwork Orange"? Yarbles! Great bolsheey yar blockos to you!

Damn right, droogie! After I go have a little of the old in-out with a young devotchka, you wanna go viddie a few lashings of the old ultraviolence? Afterwards, we can eat some stakie-wakes and then go home for a bit o' spatchka! 8)
And it all went quiet in the city
And the wind blew down the road.
Someone cried out "Subvert!"
And the people all went cold.

Right right? Right right. 8)

It's kind of interesting how mainstream most people's tastes are here. "Star Wars"? "Good Will Hunting"? Nothing wrong with that necessarily. Just thought there'd be more inclination towards subversive works.

Most subversive works aren't. Most real subversive works aren't showing.

La Haine is a good movie. I would add it to my list.

Gothika? If you actually study Gutthiuda the misue of the name gets fucking annoying!

True, especially in recent years. Perhaps I'll have to remedy that. :D

There have been subversive works in the past, but usually aren't heard of beyond the critics and historian circles. Anything approaching critical thought is lacking in this political and cultural climate.
