Property destruction/property damage

Postby vaguelyhumanoid » Fri Jan 14, 2011 11:33 pm

What is the point of acts of vandalism such as window-smashing and burning cop cars? It doesn't rally the masses in support for our cause, but rather it alienates them. It doesn't build the new society within the shell of the old, it simply flails blindly at the shell. Why do such things?

It's destroying Capitalist infrastructure?

It's not about "vandalism." At these rallies, like the G20, when people smash windows it's because they're revolting, not because they're just some goddam rascals. Futile? Maybe. But imagine one day the protesters break all the windows, break down the police barricade, and get into the summit.

They're not recruiting.
They're not just having fun (although it is fun).
They're having a revolution over here!

it's also about direct action.

example...the famous "white night" riots in san francisco, when the gay community rampaged after harvey milk's assassin was found guilty of a lesser charge and given only a few years of prison. (the image of the burning cop cars on the DK album is from white night.) Prior to the riots, sweeps of the gay neighborhoods had happened, with cops going into gay bars and randomly beating people up.

on the night of the riot, the cops tried that shit again. but this time they met resistance. and guess what.. to this day the cops no longer make violent, gay-bashing sweeps of the gay neighborhoods anymore.

the masses are not and will not be interested in our ideology until such time as the economy shows them that it has value. then they are going to be in streets doing the exact same things we've been doing, only with even more gusto. call it vanguardist, but we show the way.
