Council Bug Bins

Recently information has come to light that Dun Laoghaire - Rathdown Council have begun to put micro chips in Wheelie bins. The Campaign Against Service Charges believes that about 1200 houses in the Ballyogan area of South Dublin have been selected. The chips will be read by a computer on the bin lorry and if bin charges bills have not been paid then the bin won't be emptied and it will simply be put back down.

The campaign is urging all house holders to search for and remove these chips. The chip is located at the top left of the wheelie bin as you face it - underneath the rim. It can be removed with a screwdriver and the campaign is setting up a demonstration over the next week or so. Our information is that if the chip is removed then the bin will be emptied. Although we believe this experiment is confined to Ballyogin for the moment it may not be for long. We would urge all householders in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown are to check for chips. Non payment continues at a high level in DunLaoghaire and the campaign has over 1100 members. We urge householders to keep up non payment and get involved in campaigns in Dublin Corporation, Cork, Drogheda, Limerick and Dun Laoghaire.
